Amidst the excitement of a bustling crusade
in April 1993, a youthful, energetic and dynamic congregation
was birthed in the Adventists community in the Bahamas, with the
obvious mission to set a new standard in the church. And now,
thirteen years later, still motivated by the theme, ‘Experience
Life, where every breath glorifies God’, this young, fledging
congregation is celebrating its anniversary in grand style.
Under the celebrations theme, “Soaring to
New Heights” taken from Is. 40:31, the month long celebrations
kicked off with a bang, as the youth department set the
celebrations in gear with their exciting Youth Day Service.
Under the leadership of Brother Sheldon Knowles, the young
people invigorated the congregation April 1st with
exciting features throughout the day, and into the night. The
speaker for the Divine Hour was Sister Terry Dames, BOL 1st
AY Leader. She illuminated the theme, while reminiscing of BOL
initial glory days. After an exciting AY service which featured
a ride down memory lane, the day ended with an old-fashion
concert and comedy show in the church’s newly constructed
children’s division.
On April 8th, the Deaconess
Department , all smartly attired and ready to serve, gave us a
taste of how Heavenly it will be when we sit around the table
with Jesus. The speaker was Mrs. Ruth McKinney, former Educator
and wife of the Conference’s first President Pastor S.N.
McKinney.
On April 15th, the local
congregation celebrated Community Guest Day with special guest
speaker, Pastor Dr. Silas McKinney. It was a time of fellowship
and sweet communion as our members entertained our specially
invited guest. Meanwhile Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe and Mrs.
Joan Duncome lead a forty-five member Family Life Ministries
Retreat consisting of more than thirty Pathfinders and other
members to South Andros, from April 13th-17th
During the Sabbath Divine Hour, Brother Sheldon Knowles and
Sister Ali McIntosh were the special guest speakers at High
Rock Church and the New Macedonia Church, respectively. As we
discovered Jesus afresh, amidst the beauty of nature, our heart
were filled with gratitude.
A week of Revival services from April 22nd-
28th began the culmination of the month long
activities with former pastors being the guests preachers.
Speakers included Pastors Leo Rolle, Hugh Roach, Barrington
Brennen, and Danny Clarke and Elders Marva Farquharson and C.
Melvin Lewis. During the services, founding members gave
reflections on the church’s beginnings.
The
Dedication of the East Wing which houses the Children Division
and Prayer Centre takes place April 29th during a
full day of worship. The Sabbath Divine Hour Service expects to
be a high service in Zion featuring the dynamic preaching of
Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe. This anointed service will begin at
10:30, and is expected to be power-packed with prayer and
thanksgiving.
The Dedicatory service will begin at 3pm,
officiated by the President of the Bahamas Conference of
Seventh-Day Adventists, Dr. Leonard Johnson. The service will
be aired live on 1540am ZNS 1 Radio Bahamas, from 3 pm –5 pm.
Amongst the many invited guests, the Deputy Prime Minister,
Cynthia Pratt will be in attendance to bring greetings.
Both services will be broadcast live via
the internet, over the church’s newly launched website –
www.breathoflifethebahamas.org
Thankful for the many years of ministry the
entire church membership looks forward to beginning a new year
of ministry in southern New Providence, The Bahamas. God bless
